A word of Potty Training....
Currently we have 3 out of 5 children potty training at the daycare. Children must show an interest in potty training and be able to announce when he has to go potty. Children who show interest may use pullups and those who can announce when they have to go can wear padded underwear. All children potty-training should be wearing user-friendly clothing.
When accidents occur, your child will be expected to help with correcting the situation, including cleaning up their mess, packing up their soiled clothing, and retrieving and changing into their spare clothes. This is necessary in order to reinforce that it is more pleasant to work on learning to go potty properly, rather than simply make a mess and let someone else clean it up.
Some children may do well at toilet training for several weeks, then decide that it’s too much trouble and they don’t want to be bothered with having to remember to go on their own. If your child experiences a lot of accidents (more than one or two per week) and/or your child begins to experience other difficulties with toileting, such as refusing to go, willfully making messes, refusing to be responsible for cleaning up their accidents, etc., then it may be necessary to return the child to pullups or diapers.
Please keep in mind that the burden of training your child to successfully go potty will need to reside with you. I simply do not have the time and resources to devote to training each child individually since I care for more than one child at a time. I will do my best to assist you in your training efforts, and will consult with you to be sure we coordinate our efforts in order to present consistent expectations at home and at daycare. But ultimately the responsibility to potty-train your child must rest with you.
Feel free to discuss your concerns with me regarding your plans to potty train your child. I will attempt to help you to the best of my ability.

Two Things...
Aiden has just come down with a mysterious fever and body aches with no other symtoms. Even after admistering Tylenol his temp is over 103 degrees. Please watch for sign of illness in your children.
Next Tuesday I have my first pre-natal appointment. Osi (Zohar and Asher's mom) who is listed as my emergency backup will be watching the children. I will be leaving by 3:00pm so I'm not sure if I will be there by the time all are picked up.

All daycare children that are given meals and snacks must re-enroll with Saugatucki Outreach Nutrition program for July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. These are to be renewed annually. Forms will be given out today to be signed by parents.

Lawn
Front lawn and yard was treated with chemicals for weed control. Please do not walk on for 24hours. Will be fine by tomorrow pickups.

June 1st will mark the one year anniversary of Stacey's Incredible Kids, LLC. It's been an interesting year with starting a business and trying to get all the kinks out. We established a blog in August of 2008 and I believe this feature has supported one of it's goals to be different from other daycares and provide a family interaction with your provider. We have worked to changed the misconception that a family daycare is just play with the implementation of a project curriculum.
Some children have left our care but will always have a place in our hearts. I've watched our regulars grow and learn and also pass their own milestones along the way. I hope to continue growing and learning just as our children do.
Though Stacey's Incredible Kids, LLC is not a group daycare or center with assistants and helpers she has been able to keep the doors open without having any sick days or unexpected closures. I hope that I have meet our exceed your expectations and continue to welcome your comments, concerns and advice.

Last minute Field Trip
It was beautiful out and Nelson was home so you can say the moon's aliened. We took a nice trip to Beardsley Park and hung out for about an hour at the playground. The kids had a great time running up a storm and hopeful getting tired.

Swine Flu Updates
At this time the state and local health departments have advised us that students can continue to attend school, as long as they are not sick and do not have flu-like symptoms. Flu-like symptoms include fever (over 100 degrees F.), cough, sore throat, runny nose or stuffy nose. Additional symptoms that maybe experienced with swine flu, includes muscle pain, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea.
If your child is experiencing any flu-like symptoms, it is important that he or she remain home until the child has gotten better and has been well for two days. In order to reduce the spread of germs, you should avoid taking your children to public gatherings such as the mall or sporting events while they are sick. It is also important to teach your children how to reduce the risk of getting the flu and how to protect others from infections.
General tips for decreasing the spread of germs include:
If your child is experiencing any flu-like symptoms, it is important that he or she remain home until the child has gotten better and has been well for two days. In order to reduce the spread of germs, you should avoid taking your children to public gatherings such as the mall or sporting events while they are sick. - Most important: washing your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If water is not available, alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be used. Gels, rubs and hand wipes all work well, as long as they contain at least 60% alcohol. Hand wipes must be disposed of properly. Always read and follow label instructions when using hand sanitizer.
- Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze (if a tissue is not available, the crook of the arm).
- Teach your children to keep their hands away from their face and avoid touching their mouth, nose or eyes.
- Carefully dispose of the tissues in a wastebasket, and then wash your hands.
- Do not share drinking cups or food.
While the current situation does not warrant closure, if a confirmed case of swine flu is reported, we may close for several days. I will communicate with you immediately in the event of a closure.
If closed children should be kept home and avoid settings that will put them in close contact with other children. I understand that this may be a challenge for your family, and recommend you plan ahead in case of a closing.

What's going on!
New Look
If you haven't noticed we are preparing to paint the living room and hopefully providing a new look and fun surrounding for the daycare. Painting will happen over the weekend of the 16th.
Progress Report
You will be receiving your child's progress reports today! Please feel free to ask any questions or concerns. We have to work together!
Vacation
The daycare will be closed for vacation on August 31-September 4 and also on September 7 for Labor Day.
