MORE **POLICY UPDATES AND CHANGES**

Additional amendments:

  • Our Enrollment fee has been reduced to $40 and it will be a one time fee as opposed to annually.
  • Vacation payments are due the Friday before the daycare or your family goes on vacation.

Please also remember to sign your child in and out of daycare and help them in the morning to take off their outerwear and shoes.

Hurricane Earl

I'm sure you have heard about Hurricane Earl, it is currently a category 4 storm down in the Carolinas and estimates are that it (hopefully) may be downgraded to a category 2 by the time it reaches New England (sometime Friday). The coastal areas are expected to be the hardest hit and you can expect rainy, windy weather all day, with the heaviest winds in the afternoon. You may see tree limbs down, power outages and flooding so be prepared. Some recommendations on how to prepare:
-Remove and store all patio furniture and outside equipment that may blow around and cause damage to windows or doors.
-Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, candles (with matches), coolers,a portable radio etc. in case you lose power.
-Charge your cell phones and make contingency contact plans with family members.
-If flooding gets really bad, gather your important documents (passports, wills, etc.)and protect them in a waterproof bag or case.

I hope that the course of this storm moves away from this area but it is better to be prepared than to be sorry.

**POLICY UPDATES AND CHANGES**

As everyone knows, Stacey's Incredible Kids, LLC is still a new entity. With the said we are always working and updating policies to help fit the needs of parents and those who voice opinions and concerns. Here are a couple of items that will be revised in our policy manual effective immediately.

  • This will be the last month juice and wipes will be needed at the beginning of the month. If you haven't done so already please bring in this month's supplies.
  • Our new business hours are 7:30am-6:00pm. Though everyone may have different pickup and drop off times you will not be penalized if you pick up your child later than agreed before 6pm. Late charges will apply after the 15 minute grace period. (This means you have until 6:15pm before you receive a late fee). I would appreciate if you are picking up later than your regular time that you let me know if advance when able.
  • As you notice our doors are open in the morning. After 9:30am the doors are locked for security reasons. Breakfast is not served after this time.
  • Silly Bands are not allowed at the daycare. Children have been breaking them and leaving on the fall which poses a choking hazard to our younger children. I also have found older children chewing on them.
At this time, we are also looking into a full time weekly rate reduction and reducing our vacation week's rate. We realize in this economy it's hard to find quality daycare at an affordable price. We do pride ourselves on having some unique features i.e. smaller home setting, daycare blog, photos for parents etc. I will announce if and when these changes are made.

I hope that some of these changes help current parents and new clients coming in. We always are always striving to be the ideal setting for our children and put less stress on our parents. If you have any other suggestions please feel free to email me. Your opinions matter and help make our daycare better!

Wow it's been a busy week for the Lopez family but now it's back to the groove with our oldest two going back to school Wednesday. Andrew, our second youngest of the group will now be full time which makes us completely full. Here are a couple of things to take note of:

  • We will be starting our school curriculum again after Labor Day.
  • September 6th the daycare is closed for the Labor Day holiday
  • Please bring in juice and wipes next Wednesday August 1st
  • We will be going on a field trip to Beardsley Zoo for a program called Zoo tots on September 14th @10:30am. It's a 45 minute program for children 18-3 years that includes stories, activities, crafts and live animals. This session is entitled "Day & Night". The cost per child is $15 and pre-registration is required so I ask that the money be handed in by September 10th.
  • Our book drive will be ending August 31st..If you have any gently used or new books you would like to donate please bring in.
I'm working on some more field trips later in the year and some interesting events. Now that the fall is coming we should be having events every month i.e. October--Halloween party, November-Thankgiving Feast, December Christmas Present Exchange.

Teaching Children about Good/Bad Touch

I have recently have been discussing good and bad touches with the children. I have always thought it was important at this age and have also brought these conversations with my own children. Here is a dialog of which we have discussed:

-Our bodies belong to us and no one should touch you unless you say it's ok (but of course mommy/daddy/grandma etc does without asking because they love us)
-We have private parts that belong to us (I use the correct term: penis in these discussions).
-No one is supposed to touch our private parts except for mommy and my doctor.
-It someone other than our mommy or doctor ask to touch our private parts we say loudly NO! And then tell mommy or daddy about it even if they tell you not to tell. They will not get upset if you tell them.
-If someone touches us without asking you tell mommy or daddy.
-We shouldn't hit anyone.
-If we want to hug or kiss someone we should ask first.

If you have any questions about these conversation please feel free to ask. For more information about talking to your children about touch check out: http://www.goodtouchbadtouch.com/child-safety-at-home/talking-to-a-child-about-abuse

Book Drive...

To continue our giving for the summer we are holding a book drive for the whole month of August.

Read to Grow is a Connecticut nonprofit that builds children's literacy beginning at birth. They are a statewide nonprofit organization that connects with parents in the hospital setting and prepares them to take an active role in their child's literacy development from day one. To help parents create a language-rich environment inwhich children can develop those critical early skills, they provide books to families and to the program that serve them.

The books are given to children from individuals families and in local schools, child care centers, community programs, health care centers and hospitals. The children are always delight to receive them. For many, the book or books they receive from Read to Grow may be the first they have ever owned. The books for kids program at read to grow distributes an average of 1,500 new and gently used book per week to child who may otherwise not have their own books.

Please donate a new or gently used book anytime during the month of August at our door!!! Thanks for your support!
