Projects for the week...

Now that we have our preschool projects I wanted to go over want each of the project represent and how you can continue these simple activities at home. Some projects give you a book you can find at the library with your child. Yesterday's project dealt with the following:

APRIL SHOWERS POEM
Language-Read the poem with the child
Fine Motor-Have the children glue the flowers and umbrellas around the poem
Science-Ask the children "Why do April showers bring us May flower?"
Library-"April Showers" by George Shannon

Today's Project:
COTTON BALL
Science-Pour some water into a plastic life. Give each child one cottom ball, have them dip the cotton ball into the water and then squeeze the water out of the cotton ball.
Cognitive-Explain how the cotton is like a cloud full of water and when it has too much water it is squeezed out and that produces rain
Texture-What did the cotton feel like dry verses wet?

Friday's Project: Letter O
OWL
Fine Motor-Have the children glue the feathers onto the owl. Glue the owl, upper case O and lower case o on to the construction paper.
Science-Let the children feel the feathers. What color did the children glue onto their owl? Were the feather soft or hard?
Drama/Role Play-Have the children pretend to fly like an owl. What would it feel like to fly in the sky? Where would you want to fly to if you were an owl?
Library-"Owl Moon" By Jane Yolen & "Good-Night Owl!" By Pat Hutchins.
